Leccinum variicolor Watling syn. L. oxydabile (Sing.) Sing. p.p. Verschiedenfarbiger Rauhfuss Mottled Bolete. Cap 5–10cm, stippled mouse-grey to dark brown, initially felty and dry, later smooth and slightly viscid. Stem 125–180 x 20–25mm, white, with mouse-grey scales but bruising greenish yellow on handling. Flesh pink in the cap, intensely blue-green in stem base. Taste and smell pleasant. Tubes white or pale cream. Pores small, similarly coloured, bruising pink or vinaceous. Spore print snuff-brown with cinnamon flush. Spores subfusiform, 14–20 x 5–6um. Habitat with birch. Season summer to autumn. Occasional. Edible. Found In Europe.
